About Us

We are a full-service, primary eyecare practice with old-school values and current technology. We opened in January of 2003 with only two employees. We have now grown to a staff of six. We opened at our expanded location in March of 2015. We have been serving our community for over 20 years. Patients become part of our family as we grow together helping our community be well, see well, and look good.

Meet the Team

Dr. Richard Neuenfeldt

Dr. Richard attended Ferris State University for his undergraduate work and went on to receive his Doctorate of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He completed his internship at Chicago Osteopathic Hospital and returned to Michigan in 1992 where he practiced in a number of private and corporate offices before opening Neuenfeldt Family Eyecare with his wife, Sheila in 2003.

Dr. Richard enjoys caring for eyes of all ages but especially the very young and the very mature. For him, it’s more than an occupation but a chance to get to know his patients.

“I love what I do because of the people I meet. It starts with the eyes, but it’s really about the relationships and what I can do to improve their vision and their quality of life.”

Sheila Neuenfeldt

After receiving her Marketing degree from Valparaiso University, Sheila worked in corporate sales and retail management in Detroit and Chicago before returning to Michigan to raise her family. She and Dr. Richard opened Neuenfeldt Family Eyecare in 2003. Each of their three children worked at the office during their teenage years and have since entered their own professions in the health care field while starting families of their own. Sheila’s joy in management is sharing her excitement of optometry and how private practice can offer incredible products and solutions for every vision need. She also enjoys helping the staff reach their personal goals and potential.

Dr. Nathan Neuenfeldt

Dr. Nathan attended Ferris State University for his undergraduate work. He continued his postgraduate education at the Michigan College of Optometry, where he received his bachelor’s in Vision Science and Doctorate of Optometry. He continued his training with the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center, Pleasant Optics, and Great Lakes Bay Health Centers before coming to Neuenfeldt Family Eyecare.

Dr. Nathan brings his passion in practicing full-scope optometry with the latest advancements and treatments for patients of all ages. His training has brought a strong focus on managing eye disease, dry eye, and pediatric myopia management.
